28 figure skaters, coaches and their families were killed in the crash of a passenger plane in Washington. This is reported in a video published on the page of the U.S. Figure Skating Association in the social network X.
Among the dead were 11 current athletes: Angela Young, Sean Kay, Brielle Bayer, Corey Hainos, Edward Zhou, Everly and Alidia Livingston, Franco Aparicio, Jinna Khan, Olivia Ter, Spencer Lane. Most of them were 11 to 14 years old.
In memory of the victims of the airplane crash, the Association published a clip of the skaters' performances.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were Russian citizens in the plane that crashed in Washington, D.C., and there were Russian figure skaters on board. According to him, the US and Russia were in contact through diplomatic channels after the airplane crash. The Russian Embassy in Washington on February 1 reported that the U.S. State Department confirmed the data on the Russians Yevgenia Shishkova, Vadim Naumov and Inna Volyanskaya, who died in the plane crash.

On February 3, the head of the D.C. Department of Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services, John Donnelly , said that authorities were able to identify 55 of the dead.
Meanwhile, on January 31, Todd Inman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board in the United States, noted that it could take a year to establish the exact cause of the crash. In addition, he said that investigators had retrieved all the flight recorders (black boxes) from the crashed airplane and helicopter. According to him, the helicopter's recorders have been merged, and investigators are confident that they will also be able to obtain all the necessary data from them.
