In Russia it is necessary to prohibit the purchase of foreign equipment in the presence of domestic analogs at the regulatory level. This was stated by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov on February 3 at a meeting on the development of the machine tool industry during his working trip to the Krasnodar region.

"So far, unfortunately, there are many cases of purchasing imports when there are domestic analogs on the market. <...> I believe that it is necessary to normatively prohibit the purchase of foreign equipment in the presence of Russian equipment," Manturov was quoted as saying by the press service of the Russian government in its Telegram channel.

Manturov added that it is necessary to synchronize the efforts of science, the state, regions, as well as development institutions and the manufacturing sector in order to reach the target figures. In addition, the First Deputy Prime Minister recommended the regions to concentrate the main enterprises of the industry, ensure control over the work done and expand measures to support machine tool builders.

Earlier, in April 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Federation can and will produce necessary goods, including medicines, equipment, as well as transportation. He noted that it is critical to modernize sectors of the economy, including through digital technologies.

In February of the same year, Putin said that Russian industry is developing steadily despite external pressure. According to him, domestic companies are successfully replacing imported products and organizing production where Western brands used to be.
