The European Union (EU) is the subregion with the highest level of alcohol consumption in the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) press office said on February 3.

"Alcohol consumption levels in the European Union (EU) have remained virtually unchanged for more than a decade, making it the subregion with the highest consumption levels in the world. The EU is currently not on track to meet global and regional targets for reducing alcohol consumption," the publication says.

It is noted that at the moment to solve the problem, experts are studying the experience of those countries in which the consumption of alcoholic beverages is reduced or remains at a low level.

In November 2023 it was reported that the list of the world's most drinking countries was headed by Latvia and Lithuania. It turned out that the inhabitants of the Baltic countries drink an average of 12 liters of alcohol per year.
