Florian Philippot, leader of France's Patriots party, called for a halt to support for Ukraine after its President Vladimir Zelensky (term expires May 20, 2024) announced US aid.

"Obviously the same with France's money! <...> No more euros, no more weapons for Ukraine," Filippo wrote on February 3 on his social network page X, commenting on Zelensky's statement that he did not know where the $200 billion allocated by the United States for military aid had gone.

According to the French politician, the conflict in Ukraine is a scheme to embezzle the funds. He asked when a large-scale investigation would begin.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that Zelensky's words that he did not know where the money allocated by Washington was located were lies. According to the Ukrainian leader, Ukraine has received only about $75bn from the USA.

Earlier, on 25 January, Reuters reported that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had frozen programs to support foreign countries, including Ukraine, after a State Department dispatch approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Prior to that, on January 21, US President Donald Trump said that he would push NATO member states to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP. The head of state drew attention to the fact that Washington has spent $200 billion more on assistance to Kiev than other members of the bloc, and it is time for them to "level the situation".

Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kiev against the background of the special operation of the Russian Federation to protect Donbass, which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
