Oncologist talks about the need for AI to help doctors

There is a shortage of 4.3 million doctors in the world, against which the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in the work of doctors can help them analyze large layers of information and exclude at least gross errors. This was stated by Andrey Kaprin, Director General of the National Medical Center of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Chief Outside Specialist-Oncologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia, President of the Association of Oncologists of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences, during the press conference "Oncological care in Russia: current situation and development prospects", timed to coincide with the World Cancer Day and the 80th anniversary of the oncological service of Russia, on February 3.
"There is a shortage of doctors all over the world, and I have already talked about it. I don't know, maybe the figures have changed, but the beginning of 2023, according to the WHO, there [was] a shortage of 4.3 million doctors in the world. A whole country of doctors is in shortage in the world," he reported.
The expert noted that the more doctors have assistants to help systematize, evaluate information, the better it will be. According to him, the load on oncologists will grow with the development of research technologies, and it can be reduced only through additional technologies.
