The Finnish Foreign Ministry has published instructions for citizens who plan to go to fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as mercenaries. The publication appeared on the official website of the ministry on 3 February.
The statement said that the ministry does not recommend or encourage "volunteer" trips to Ukraine, but emphasized that such activities are not prohibited by Finnish law.
"Participation as a volunteer in the AFU is not a crime in Finland", - stated in the statement.
It is noted that the mercenaries as citizens of Finland will be offered consular services, as well as assistance in adaptation.
Earlier, in December 2024, Duma deputy Alexander Tolmachev reported that the account of foreign mercenaries in the ranks of the AFU, liquidated or arrested, goes into the thousands. British instructors will also join these lists.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador at large for crimes of the Kiev regime, Rodion Miroshnik, said that Russia was receiving more and more evidence of the presence of a significant number of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In particular, the number of Colombian mercenaries is increasing.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
