Freeland warned the U.S. about Canada's response to the duties

Americans will be "stunned" by Canada's response to the imposition of duties by US President Donald Trump. This was stated on February 3 by the candidate for the post of the head of the Liberal Party of Canada, Chrystia Freeland.
She characterized the decision of the American president as an act of economic warfare.
"Americans will be stunned by Canada's response," she said in an interview with CNN.
Freeland emphasized that Canadians are ready to fight for their country and are confident of their success. However, she did not specify what kind of retaliatory measures Canada plans to take.
On the same day, the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas said that the European Union (EU) is preparing for a possible trade war with the United States. According to her, in case of this outcome, "the only one who will laugh" will be China.
Earlier, on February 1, Trump signed an executive order to impose trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. At the same time, he promised to impose duties on goods from the EU.
Chinese economist Andrew Leung, in turn, told Izvestia that the tariffs that Trump imposes on imports of goods from China and Mexico will lead to an increase in consumer prices in the United States itself.
Later, on February 2, German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy from the Green Party Robert Habeck announced the EU's readiness to impose retaliatory duties against the United States.
