Russian embassy says no evacuation requests from Russians in Rwanda


There have been no appeals from Russians in Rwanda with a request for evacuation due to the hostilities on the country's border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This was reported in the Russian embassy on February 3.
"The embassy has not received any appeals on the issue of evacuation," the diplomatic mission told TASS.
At the same time, the embassy urged to refrain from visiting the areas bordering the DRC.
On the eve of the British newspaper The Guardian said that the West ignores the armed conflicts in the DR Congo and Sudan. According to the newspaper, the Western states are focused on the Palestinian-Israeli and Ukrainian conflicts.
Earlier, on January 31, the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric reported the deaths of at least 700 people during the fighting in the town of Goma, located in the DR Congo. Then he added that another 2.8 thousand people were injured.
The escalation in DR Congo came after the government severed diplomatic relations with Rwanda and accused the country of supporting rebels who launched a new offensive on the town of Goma. DRC's Foreign Ministry on January 26 announced the immediate withdrawal of its diplomats in the Rwandan capital of Kigali and ordered the country's embassy in Kinshasa to cease operations within 48 hours.
On January 27, March 23 Movement (M23) leader Cornel Nangaa claimed control of Goma city. Rebels cut food and relief supplies routes from the south. UN Jan 31 reported at least 700 dead in Goma, 2,800 other residents injured. The movement's offensive continues.
