AdG head Weidel pointed to politicians' misuse of Holocaust remembrance

Current politicians abuse the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Alice Weidel, head of the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party, said on February 3.
"I am alarmed when the Holocaust is used as a political tool. The memory of this grave crime must stand above everyday politics," she told the Das Erste channel.
Weidel also said she was not going to visit the Russian embassy to commemorate Germany's surrender on May 8, emphasizing that many crimes were committed against the German people during that period and commemoration days should be established.
She added that German politics should not be based on guilt for Nazi crimes, but on responsibility for the future.
"Here (in modern Germany - Ed.) dissenters are attacked. AdG functionaries are constantly being physically attacked. We are under threat. Our homes are being defaced," Weidel stated.
Earlier, on January 27, Russia and other countries marked the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day in 1945, the Red Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz (German: Auschwitz).
