Europe warned of Trump's negative reaction if the EU refuses to buy US weapons

European diplomats say that if European Union (EU) countries refuse to buy American weapons, it will infuriate US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on February 3.
According to the publication, it is France that firmly insists that European taxpayers' money should be spent on military systems designed and manufactured in Europe. However, some European diplomats warn of Trump's negative reaction to such a decision.
"If we as the EU are now going to invest billions in defense capabilities and decisively close the door to American defense, do you think that will be well-received at Mar-a-Lago? (Trump's residence. - Ed.)," Politico quoted a European diplomat as saying.
He also added that unlike France - the bloc's sole nuclear power - countries such as Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and the Baltic states have a strategic interest in keeping their allies close.
According to Gazeta.Ru, France earlier said that it was the conflict in Ukraine that contributed to the US arms sales profits. The publication also recalled the US plans to sell Israel arms and ammunition worth $8 billion.
Earlier, on January 25, the State Department's report "Arms Transfer and U.S. Defense Trade in Fiscal Year 2024" said that U.S. exports of military equipment to foreign countries in 2024 increased by 29% to a record $318.7 billion.
