A group preparing terrorist acts neutralized in Azerbaijan


A criminal group that was preparing terrorist acts in the north of the country has been neutralized in Azerbaijan. This was reported by the State Security Service of the country on February 3.
Employees of the Service acted in cooperation with specialists of the Interior Ministry.
"Joint complex measures to identify and suppress terrorist and sabotage acts committed by members of radical religious extremist groups associated with international terrorist organizations were carried out," reads the publication on the website of the agency.
It was established that previously convicted Gadir Hajiyev took part in the activities of the terrorist group "Forest Brothers" together with other residents of the Gusar district of the country, on the territory of which they were preparing to commit illegal activities.
It is specified that they also prepared shelters in the forest around three villages in the area and equipped them with weapons, ammunition, explosives and other technical devices and equipment.
One member of the group resisted after being discovered and threw grenades at the officers.
The six members of the group are accused of preparing to create illegal armed groups, preparing for terrorism abroad, organizing a criminal association abroad, and inciting national, racial or religious hatred.
The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, on January 28, the German Prosecutor General's Office reported the detention of a Russian, who is suspected of financing the terrorist group "Islamic State" (IS, banned in Russia). He is also suspected of violating the law on foreign economic activity.
