Mariupol approved new official symbols of the city

Mariupol has approved new official symbols of the city. Corresponding documents were signed on February 3 by the acting head of the city district Oleg Morgun.

"The new flag and coat of arms were developed by specialized specialists on the basis of previously existing coats of arms of the city of Mariupol", - he wrote in his Telegram-channel.

Morgun noted that the color scheme of the coat of arms reflects the location of the city on the shore of the Sea of Azov and the historical features of its foundation. The white color symbolizes metallurgy, which is one of the key sectors of Mariupol's economy.

He also drew attention to the figure of an anchor, which indicates the significance of the city as an important seaport.

Speaking about the flag, Morgun specified that it was designed on the basis of the coat of arms and repeats its symbolism.

Earlier, on March 21, 2024, Lugansk approved the symbols of the city. So, on the coat of arms on a golden shield in the new variation remained black with gold seams blast furnace with a flame, accompanied on the right and left by two black hammers. The blast furnace symbolizes the metallurgy that influenced the formation and development of the city.

The federal constitutional law on accepting the liberated regions into the Russian Federation was signed on October 5, 2022. According to it, residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR), as well as Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions, are recognized as Russian citizens from the day of their admission to the Russian Federation.
