The media told of the harm Trump's duties would do to Americans

Residents of the United States have already felt the damage from the duties of United States President Donald Trump, announced against Mexico, Canada and China, although the tariffs have not yet had time to take effect. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on February 3.
Trump, as the publication recalled, himself admitted that the new import duties could bring "some pain" to US residents. It is important that the duties will only begin to take effect on Tuesday, but Americans have already noticed the negative effect of them.
In addition, the import fees could have an unpredictable impact on U.S. international trade: the duties deal Canada and Mexico a major blow that demonstrates that no industry or country is safe. This could cause both trading partners and US rivals to rethink their dependence on the US market or their plans to operate in it.
Earlier on Feb. 1, Trump signed an executive order imposing trade tariffs of 25 percent on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. Then he also promised to impose duties on products from the EU.
Then, on Feb. 3, the U.S. president said he would hold talks on the duties with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and representatives of Mexico. Trump noted that he did not expect anything "dramatic" from these meetings.
Trudeau, in turn, announced on February 2 that Ottawa was imposing mirror tariffs of 25% on Washington for the amount of $155 billion. The head of the government accused Trump of violating the free trade agreement between the United States and Canada. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has ordered the implementation of a plan to impose retaliatory duties against the US to protect the country's interests. She indicated that Mexico City and Washington must comprehensively combat the proliferation of fentanyl.
A representative of the Chinese embassy in Washington, commenting on the duties, said that the U.S. is violating World Trade Organization (WTO) rules by its unilateral increase in import duties on Chinese goods. This is unconstructive and could harm the fight against drugs.
Chinese economist Andrew Leung, speaking to Izvestia, pointed out that the imposition of duties on goods from China and Mexico would increase consumer prices in the United States itself.
