The Tor-M1 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) of the 20th Guards All-Russian Army of the "West" group of forces has destroyed reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the zone of the special military operation (SMO) in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 3.

The ministry specified that the calculation detected reconnaissance drones of airplane type "Valkyrie" and "Furia" of the AFU, which were collecting data on the positions of Russian servicemen. After the detection, the artillerymen immediately launched missiles that hit their targets precisely. The destruction of the enemy UAVs took place at a distance of 10 kilometers, the agency noted.

Having made sure that the aerial targets were hit, the Russian servicemen changed their firing position so that the enemy could not detect it and retaliate. The account of this calculation has more than 100 defeated drones of various types, the Defense Ministry pointed out.

"The targets here, as they say, are many, mostly low-flying and medium-height UAVs. Unmanned aviation, airplane-type UAVs," said the head of the Tor-M1 SAM system calculation with the call sign Bagrat.

The Tor-M1 missile system is capable of hitting a wide range of targets. Its protection and defense is the responsibility of a mobile firing group, which acts in conjunction with the calculation while the complex is in combat operation.

Earlier, on February 1, the Russian Defense Ministry said that UAV operators of the motorized rifle regiment of the Dnepr group of troops destroyed dugouts and infantry of the AFU on the Orekhovsky direction in Zaporizhzhya region. Operators work day and night, in all weather conditions, go to the positions and fulfill combat tasks. The calculations of reconnaissance drones conduct surveillance, search for targets and transmit enemy coordinates to the command center. After that, the UAV strike teams carry out strikes.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
