Molniya-2 UAVs hit and destroyed AFU BMPs in the Kursk border area

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) calculations of the Molniya-2 aircraft type of the Tula Guards Airborne Unit have hit and destroyed an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the border area of Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 3.

The ministry specified that after receiving the task, the paratroopers assembled the drone and stealthily carried out its takeoff. Having identified the target, the operator carried out targeting of the UAV and, despite the opposition of the enemy's electronic warfare (EW) system, destroyed the Ukrainian militants' BMP.

"The priority, of course, is heavy equipment: tanks, MLRS (multiple rocket launchers), armored personnel carriers. We hit everything, from vehicles to strongholds, UAV control points," said the commander of the Molniya-2 UAV calculation with the call sign Surikat.

The Molniya-2 UAV is capable of higher speed than a conventional FPV drone, while carrying more cargo, the Defense Ministry said. This UAV can strike targets that are located at a distance of more than 30 kilometers, thanks to which operators can hit enemy targets and support Russian attack aircraft while staying safe.

Earlier, on February 1, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian army's Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon system (SAM) destroyed an AFU drone in the border area of Kursk Region.

The AFU attacked Russian Federation positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
