One person died, thousands of residents were evacuated due to flooding in the north-west of Australia. This was reported by CNN on February 2.

"Flooding affected most of the coast of North Queensland, badly affected the city of Ingham and the nearby town of Townsville", - stated in the material.

The Prime Minister of the country Anthony Albanese said that the government will provide all necessary resources to overcome the consequences of flooding.

"Water levels are rising rapidly and we are in for a dangerous and life-threatening flood. If you don't evacuate, it may be too dangerous for emergency services to rescue you," warned the Townsville Local Disaster Management Team.

Local authorities also warned that crocodiles could appear in areas where they have not been seen before.

According to meteorologists, the flooding came after days of heavy rainfall. In many areas, up to 600 mm of rain fell in 24 hours, writes CNN.

Earlier, January 28, Bloomberg wrote that the powerful storm "Erminia" caused flooding in northwestern France and created a risk of avalanches in the Alps.

Before that, on January 22, the Associated Press (AP) reported that flooding and landslides in Indonesia killed 21 people. It was specified that the waters of overflowing rivers flooded nine villages in Pekalongan district of Central Java province, and landslides fell on mountain villages after heavy rains.
