Schools closed in Santorini due to increased seismic activity

Authorities on the Greek island of Santorini have ordered all schools on the island to close on Monday, February 3, due to increased seismic activity, the BBC reported on February 2.
"Authorities have also recommended refraining from 'large gatherings indoors' across the island," the publication noted.
The island has been hit by tremors of up to 4.6 magnitude in recent days. On Sunday morning, February 2, earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.3 and 3.9 were recorded.
Santorini is located on the Greek volcanic arc. A major volcanic eruption occurred there in 1950. Authorities note that the current tremors are not associated with volcanic activity.
Earlier, January 31, it was reported about the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 in Ecuador. The epicenter of the seismic event was located 70 km northeast of the city of Ambato with a population of about 154 thousand people. The source lay at a depth of 10 km. There were no casualties.
Before that, on January 30, there was an earthquake in Alaska with a magnitude of 5.8. Underground tremors were detected 71 km southeast of the city of Nikolai. The depth amounted to 0.1 km.
