Fans of the Canadian hockey clubs "Ottawa" and "Calgary" booed the U.S. anthem during the matches of the National Hockey League (NHL) with the opposing teams, reports The New York Post on February 2.

It is noted that during the performance of the American anthem about 20 thousand spectators in the stands disapprovingly whistled and hummed. We are talking about the games "Ottawa" - "Minnesota" (6:0) and "Calgary" - "Detroit" (1-3), notes "Sport-Express".

The media adds that such a mixed reaction of fans was provoked by the decision of US President Donald Trump, who imposed duties on goods from Canada.

Trump signed an executive order imposing trade tariffs on goods from Canada, China and Mexico on February 1. According to Trump, Canada is responsible for significant amounts of drug smuggling into the US. In response, Trudeau said the country has an equal, strong and reasonable response to Trump's imposition of duties.

On the same day, Trudeau announced that Canadian authorities are imposing retaliatory duties of 25% on goods from the U.S. totaling $155 billion, which will include immediate duties on $30 billion worth of goods starting Tuesday, February 4.
