The pilot who was flying the plane that crashed in Washington, D.C., tried to maneuver at the last second to avoid a collision with a military helicopter. This was reported by The New York Post on February 2, citing Todd Inman, a board member of the U.S. National Safety Council (NTSB).

"At some point, very close to the collision, there was a slight change in pitch, an increase in pitch," the newspaper quoted Inman as saying.

It is specified that this maneuver was made at the very last moment before the crash. This information was obtained by studying the flight recorder, which was in the plane.

The NTSB added that at the moment additional circumstances of the incident are unknown, the data is preliminary.

According to the newspaper, the data from the flight recorder differs from the data that was recorded by the control tower.

Earlier, on February 1, CBS television reported that rescuers had recovered the bodies of two of the three crew members of the military helicopter that crashed into a passenger plane in the sky above Washington.

The New York Times reported at the time that the U.S. Army was not releasing the identity of the female pilot of the military helicopter. The Army said the helicopter's crew members were "among the best." According to the newspaper, it is not yet clear what exactly prompted the pilot's family to ask that her name not be released. The NYT calls the issue of the woman's identity "particularly sensitive."

On the night of January 30, near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., an American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk military helicopter collided, after the accident they fell into the Potomac River. On board the civilian aircraft were 60 passengers and four crew members, on the helicopter - three military. US President Donald Trump reported no survivors of the plane crash in Washington, DC. According to the latest data, 41 bodies have been found, 28 of which have been identified.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were Russian citizens in the plane that crashed in Washington, D.C., and there were Russian figure skaters on board. According to him, the US and Russia were in contact through diplomatic channels after the airplane crash. The Russian Embassy in Washington on February 1 reported that the U.S. State Department confirmed the data on the Russians Yevgenia Shishkova, Vadim Naumov and Inna Volyanskaya who died in the plane crash.

Meanwhile, Inman noted on January 31 that it could take a year to establish the exact cause of the plane crash. In addition, he said that investigators had retrieved all the flight recorders (black boxes) from the crashed airplane and helicopter. According to him, the helicopter's recorders have been merged, and investigators are confident that they will also be able to obtain all the necessary data from them.
