Unknown people in Odessa have stained with paint the memorial plaques in honor of Russian painter Mikhail Vrubel, mathematician Alexander Lyapunov and physiologist Ivan Sechenov. This was reported on February 2 by the Ukrainian edition of "Novosti. Odessa" in Telegram-channel.

It is specified that unknown persons stained the plates with blue and black paint, and on two boards was written the word "down". According to the publication, the act of vandalism was committed by activists who demand the dismantling of the plaques.

"Activists demand to dismantle a number of more Russian-language plaques in Odessa", - stated in the message of the publication.

Earlier, on December 31, 2024, it was reported that at the behest of the authorities in Ukraine dismantled the monument to Soviet poet, actor, author and singer of songs Vladimir Vysotsky, installed near the film studio in Odessa.

Before that, on December 17, 2024, it was reported that unknown people left inscriptions in Odessa demanding to dismantle the structures on the monuments to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and Count Mikhail Vorontsov.

The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of "decommunization" in Ukraine, which began in 2015 under the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes." It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
