Musk said the U.S. Treasury Department approved payments to fraudsters and terrorists

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), whose head is American entrepreneur Ilon Musk, found that the U.S. Treasury Department approved the transfer of payments to fraudulent organizations and terrorist groups. Musk said on February 1 on his page in the social network X (formerly Twitter).
"The DOGE team discovered, among other things, that the officials in charge of approving payments at the U.S. Treasury Department were instructed to always approve payments, even if they were addressed to known fraudulent and terrorist groups," the DOGE head wrote.
Musk noted that during his entire tenure, U.S. Treasury Department officials "have literally never rejected a payment, not once."
Earlier in the day, The New York Times reported that the head of the U.S. Treasury Department Scott Bessent gave Musk's team access to the federal payment system to monitor and limit government spending. According to the newspaper's interlocutors, DOGE employees were granted access to the system, which processes data on payments worth more than $5 trillion a year; the department already requires access to data from other agencies. The system stores personal data of millions of citizens, which increases the risk of conflict of interest, the material noted.
Prior to this, January 31, Reuters reported that Musk's aides, engaged in the conduct of work in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, closed access to all databases with personal information for government employees. The systems, according to the publication's interlocutors, included databases containing information on employees' dates of birth, addresses, salaries and length of employment.
Meanwhile, on January 30, according to a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University, it became known that many Americans do not approve of Musk's active role in the administration of US President Donald Trump. Thus, 53% of respondents said that they do not support the active role of the entrepreneur in the American administration. At the same time, 39% of respondents expressed their support for him.
