Media reported about the termination of pension payments to Finns living abroad

Finnish citizens who live abroad will no longer be paid the "people's pension" from today. This was reported by Yle on February 1.
It is specified that the "people's pension" in Finland is a basic social protection, which supplements the labor pension, if for some reason it was not accumulated or its size was too small.
"Payment of the people's pension to Finns living abroad has ceased as of today," the publication said.
The Population Welfare Bureau (Kela) estimates that payments will stop for 23,000 people who predominantly live in European Union (EU) countries, the UK and Switzerland.
As noted by the publication, in 2023 the size of the "people's pension" amounted to € 335 and it received a third of the population of Finland.
Earlier, January 27, it was reported that several trade unions in Finland begin protests because of disagreements with employers on the level of salaries of employees. The Industrial Union, which is part of the Central Union Association (SAK), is negotiating with companies in the technology and chemical industries. The latter has set a goal of raising wages by 10 percent within two years, a demand that employers consider unrealistic.
