The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai is verifying information about the attack of local residents of the Indian state of Goa on Russians with machetes. This was reported by spokesman for the diplomatic mission Nikolai Kapustin on February 1.

Earlier in the day, Telegram channels spread information about the attack of Goa locals with machetes on a married couple from Kazan who had camped in a tent on the night of February 1. It was reported that they struck the man on the jaw, ear and neck and then fled. The tourists managed to flee the scene and go to hospital.

"The Consulate General is aware of the situation and is making attempts to get official information from the authorities and contacts of the Russians," Kapustin told TASS.

On January 6 in Georgia, armed robbers attacked a married couple from Russia who were traveling through the country by car. The criminals tried to rape the woman, and the husband was wounded with a firearm. The wife managed to escape, but the man was taken away by the bandits in their car. Later it turned out that he had been shot. The body of the deceased was found in the Nakra River. On the same day, the Georgian police detained two suspects in the crime.
