The unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) has used up all coal reserves for generating electricity at the Moldovan State District Power Plant (SDPP). This was reported by the republic's leader Vadim Krasnoselsky on February 1.

"Coal is left for a few days, and we are unlikely to return to it. But the government has received the task, and, of course, Inter RAO officials and the plant itself are concerned about acquiring this coal," Krasnoselsky said at a briefing.

He also explained that the Moldavskaya GRES generates electricity on special coal - anthracite and it "still needs to be found somewhere". As for gas supplies, the DMR will continue working with colleagues from Hungary, Russia and other countries so that the gas "will go to Transnistria thoroughly and for a long time". At the same time, the unrecognized republic was satisfied with the assistance offered by the European Union (EU).

"Thanks for this to Hungary - that they went along with it. Now these supplies are being formed. There are certain documentary technical terms in formalizing the deal," Krasnoselsky said.

Earlier on February 1, Krasnoselsky said that the DMR had stopped fanning power cuts following the Moldovan government's decision to start gas supplies to the unrecognized republic. The Moldovan government's Commission for Emergency Situations (CES) signed a document approving gas supplies to the unrecognized republic. The fuel will be purchased with a grant from the European Union (EU).

Before that, on January 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moldova was interested in using the energy crisis as a weapon against Transnistria. According to her, the statements made by the Moldovan side about its readiness to end "the difficulties experienced by Transnistrians" are declarations.

On January 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that in 10-15 days all gas and coal reserves will run out in the DMR and the energy crisis there will reach a catastrophic level.

Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to prolong the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
