One resident was killed and four others were injured in Kursk Region as a result of Ukrainian drone attacks, the interim governor of the region, Alexander Khinshtein, said on February 1.

He noted that the attacks were carried out the day before, on Friday, January 31. During one of them, a drone attacked a car with people near the village of Snagost in Korenevsky district.

"A civilian car was struck, in which three residents of the Glushkovsky district were riding: two retired spouses and their neighbor. According to preliminary information, one person was killed. Unfortunately, due to active hostilities, his body has not yet been able to evacuate", - indicated the governor's proxy in his Telegram-channel.

It is noted that the wife of the deceased was not injured and later refused the help of medics. The authorities of the region will help her with the funeral of her husband. Another passenger, born in 1981, received multiple injuries.

"Only early in the morning he managed to bring him to the Rylsk CRB, where he was connected to a ventilator. Now he has been taken by sanaviation to the regional clinical hospital. The doctors will do everything possible to save him," Hinshtein pointed out.

Another Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) aircraft attacked the village of Nikolayevo-Daryino in Sujan district, which had been liberated the previous day. As a result, three people were wounded: two men and one woman. A munition was dropped on them at the moment when the military were taking people out of the basement where they were hiding. All three were taken to the Rylsk Central District Hospital with multiple shrapnel wounds.

Earlier in the day, the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case of terrorist attack (item "b" part 3, article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) against the AFU militants who attacked a civilian car in Korenevsky district of Kursk region the day before.

Before that, on January 27, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a case in absentia against Michael Jones, a mercenary from the United States, who invaded Kursk region as part of the AFU. He is accused of committing a terrorist act and mercenarism (p. "a" and p. "c" of part 2 of article 205, part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
