It was found that on January 31, 2025, the Ukrainian military attacked a civilian car with three civilians using a drone with an explosive device. As a result, two people were killed and one more was injured.
All AFU fighters involved in the crime will be identified and brought to justice, noted in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, on January 27, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a case in absentia against a mercenary from the United States Michael Jones, who invaded Kursk region as part of the AFU. He is accused of committing a terrorist act and mercenarism (paragraphs "a", "c" of part 2 of article 205, part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Before that, January 22, a mercenary from Colombia Pablo Puentes Borges, suspected of committing a terrorist act in Kursk region, was taken into custody. The Colombian joined the Ukrainian army and participated in the conflict for financial remuneration. In addition, he illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation in December 2024, entering the territory of the Kursk region as part of the AFU, where he committed crimes against civilians.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
