A pensioner died in Transnistria after trying to warm his house with an iron. This was reported by the Interior Ministry of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) on February 1.

Earlier, on January 26, the press service of the department told in Telegram that there was a fire in Slobozia - firefighters found in the burnt house and its owner. So, the man was hospitalized in the intensive care unit unconscious and with severe burns. The fire of 35 square meters was extinguished within an hour. Burned furniture, personal belongings, the roof of the house was partially damaged.

"The inspector of the State Fire Supervision Service found in one of the rooms an extension cord with a Soviet iron plugged in. It was standing on a nightstand. From the strong voltage there was a short circuit of the wiring. The pensioner tried to put out the fire himself, but the fire spread to his things," - shared in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

They also emphasized that the death of a pensioner from Slobodzei, who tried to warm himself with an iron, was the first case of death due to violation of safety rules in the operation of electrical equipment during the energy crisis in the region.

Before that, on January 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moldova was interested in using the energy crisis as a weapon against Transnistria. According to her, the statements made by the Moldovan side about its readiness to end "the difficulties experienced by Transnistrians" are declarations.

On January 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that in 10-15 days all gas and coal reserves will run out in the DMR, and the energy crisis there will reach a catastrophic level.

Gas supplies from Russia to Moldova and Transnistria stopped on January 1 due to Ukraine 's refusal to extend the agreement on transit through its territory and debts of the Moldovan side to Gazprom. In mid-January, it became known that Russia was ready to provide assistance to the DMR and start humanitarian gas supplies.
