Fraudsters have found a new way to deceive citizens through the purchase of gold bars or investment coins. This was reported on January 31 in the department for combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

"A citizen gets a call and is convinced that his money is in danger, however, instead of transfer they ask to buy gold - bars or investment coins. The victim is then offered to either hand over the gold to a courier or sell it in another bank and transfer the money to a 'reliable' account," law enforcers told the Telegram channel "Herald of the Russian Cyber Police."

They also specified that this fraudulent scheme works because it is easier to explain the purchase of gold to a bank employee, arguing it with arguments about inflation and a high level of trust in precious metals.

Against this background, the agency emphasized that neither the police nor banks require the purchase of gold - it has nothing to do with the safety of funds. In addition, any "safe" accounts that the attackers talk about simply do not exist.

"If you get a call with alarming news, hang up and call back the bank or police yourself at the official number," the Interior Ministry urged.

Earlier, on January 22, in Roskachestvo told about ways to recognize fake applications of banks. It is noted that when installing unofficial banking applications, users enter their personal data, including CVV-code, which leads to theft of information and loss of access to the service.
