WP reported on the massive purge of FBI agents involved in anti-Trump cases

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump demanded the release of the names of FBI agents who participated in the cases of storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and also fired the prosecutors involved in the same investigation. The Washington Post (WP) reported on February 1, citing sources.
"According to the memo, <...> on Friday (Jan. 31. - Ed.) a senior Justice Department official ordered the firing of at least eight senior FBI executives and a sweeping review of thousands of other bureau employees, including those who worked on investigations related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol," the piece said.
The ministry's top official, Emil Bove, said the current leadership cannot trust such employees to "faithfully implement the president's agenda." It is specified that the Ministry of Justice did not respond to requests for comment.
According to the newspaper's unnamed sources, the ministry is also reviewing records and considering firing dozens of other agents involved in cases that involve Trump. This includes the head of state's alleged attempts to cancel the 2020 election and alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Earlier, on January 20, CNN reported that the American president plans to pardon those convicted of crimes not related to the use of force and harm to people, as well as commute the sentence of others accused of storming the Capitol. The following day, The New York Post (NYP) reported the release of the first defendants in the case.
On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the congressional building to prevent the approval of the results of the November 2020 presidential election, which was won by Joe Biden. The riots left five people dead, including a police officer.
Subsequently, the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened more than 160 criminal cases. In turn, the acting prosecutor of the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin admitted that the number of open cases could reach several hundred.
