An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred in Ecuador. This was reported in the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center(EMSC) on January 31.

It is noted that the epicenter of the seismic event was located 70 km northeast of the city of Ambato with a population of about 154 thousand people. The source lay at a depth of 10 km.

There was no information about casualties and damage.

Earlier, January 30, it was reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in Alaska. Underground tremors were detected 71 km southeast of the town of Nikolai. The depth amounted to 0.1 km.
