An expert gave advice on how to carry out quality repairs

To make the repair really durable, it is important to take into account not only the materials used, but also a multifaceted approach to planning and execution of the work, according to Alexei Orekhov, an expert in interior decoration of premises and general director of the company NATEK. He told Izvestia on February 1.
According to him, the durability of the repair is the result of a competent combination of preparation, technology and care.
"It is worth starting with thorough preparation. Before starting work, it is necessary to conduct a detailed inspection of the room to identify possible problems: cracks in the walls, moisture accumulation or worn-out communications. If you neglect to eliminate hidden defects, even the best quality repair may not meet expectations. For example, poor waterproofing of floors and walls in the bathroom will lead to mold and destruction of finishing materials," he said.
The choice of materials plays a key role, the expert emphasized. In his opinion, it is worth paying attention not only to their price, but also to the compliance with the operating conditions. For example, for the kitchen and bathroom it is better to use ceramic tiles with increased resistance to moisture, and for the living room - paints with washable coating.
"If you choose laminate, give preference to wear resistance classes from 32 and above - this guarantees that it will serve at least 10-15 years under normal operation," Orekhov added.
In addition, laying and installation technologies also require attention. Often there are situations when even expensive tiles or parquet fall into disrepair due to improper preparation of the base, the expert pointed out. For the floor it is important to provide a level surface and quality substrate to avoid creaks and subsidence. Laying tiles, it is worth using an appropriate adhesive composition, which will provide a reliable grip on the surface, advised the expert.
"An important stage is the arrangement of engineering systems. Plumbing, electrical wiring, ventilation - this is the basis for the durability of the entire repair. Hidden communications should be made of high-quality materials, taking into account all technical norms. For example, copper pipes for water are more reliable than plastic pipes in systems with high pressure. Ventilation systems will help to avoid moisture accumulation, which is especially important in bathrooms and kitchens," explained the General Director of NATEK.
He reminded that one should not forget about the protection of finishes. It is recommended to reinforce the corners of the walls, especially in passageway areas, with decorative corners. Tile seams should be treated with a special impregnation to prevent cracks and darkening. If the house has wooden floors, it is necessary to maintain humidity within 40-60% - this will protect the wood from cracking.
Regular maintenance is also important. Any finish, even the highest quality, needs periodic maintenance. The expert advised to check the condition of the coatings, timely update the grout joints, clean the surfaces and eliminate minor defects.
"Durable repair is not just spending on quality materials, but also a thoughtful approach at every stage, about attentive care. Following these recommendations, you can avoid unexpected problems and enjoy the result for many years", - concluded Orekhov.
Earlier, December 29, 2024, it was reported that among the surveyed Russians 9% of respondents plan to make repairs in 2025. Such data follow from the results of the survey of MAXIMUM Education. Another 15% of respondents are going to visit a new country on vacation, 12% - to help a child with admission.
