Turkish authorities seal 161 hotels after ski resort fire

Turkish authorities have sealed off 161 hotels in Turkey's western Bursa province after a major fire at the Bolu ski resort killed nearly 80 people. This was reported by the DHA news agency on January 31.
The saddened hotels also included properties in the popular Uludag ski resort.
"Acting on instructions from the governor's office, the provincial department of culture and tourism opened a total of 161 mansions in 17 districts, including 25 mansions belonging to a hotel in Uludag that had no license, no business license," the report elaborated.
A day earlier it was reported about the closure of 50 hotels in Antalya. It was specified that the establishments did not have a business or operating license.
Earlier, on January 27, the newspaper Sabah reported that the fire in the hotel Grand Kartal in the Turkish ski resort in the province of Bolu, could have occurred due to the mistake of its employees who did not turn off the grill.
The massive fire at the resort in Bolu occurred on the night of January 21. According to the latest reports, 78 people died in it. The fire started in a wooden hotel located at an altitude of 2.2 thousand meters. It was specified that there were almost 240 guests in the building. January 26, the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel Halit Ergul called the hotel staff responsible for the fire. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared January 22 a day of mourning in the country after the tragedy.
