Two-time figure skating champion Dick Button has died.

Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Dick Button has died at the age of 95. This was reported on January 31 by the Associated Press (AP).

As indicated in the publication, the demise of the figure skater was reported by his son, without specifying the cause of death. The athlete died on January 30.

Dick Button - the owner of gold medals at the Olympic Games in 1948 and 1952, while in 1948 he became the youngest Olympic champion in the history of men's single skating and the first skater to perform a double axel. Between 1948 and 1952, Button won the world championship five times.

He was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1976 and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983. After finishing his figure skating career, Button began working as a commentator, for which he was nicknamed "The Voice of Figure Skating", and in 1981 he won an Emmy Award for Best Television Analyst.

The U.S. Figure Skating Association also expressed condolences on the athlete's death, noting in the publication that "his innovative style and award-winning television commentary revolutionized figure skating."
