Mincifra announced mass installation of stations to connect villages to LTE
Mass installation of domestic base stations as part of the project to eliminate digital inequality (DEI) to connect to high-speed Internet will begin in 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation Maksut Shadaev on Friday, January 31, on the sidelines of the Digital Almaty 2025 forum.
"As part of connecting small settlements to LTE, domestic base stations will be massively installed from 2025," TASS quoted the minister as saying.
Earlier, on December 11, 2024, Shadaev said that 16 Russian cities will be provided with 5G infrastructure by 2030. In addition, he noted that by the same year, almost 100% of highways in Russia will be provided with seamless mobile Internet coverage.
In May last year, low-orbit satellite vehicles using NTN's 5G standard to communicate with subscribers were launched in Russia for the first time. The first mission launched in June 2023 and was deemed a complete success.
In March of the same year, Shadaev said that 3,000 small settlements in Russia were connected to high-speed internet in 2023.
