Moscow prosecutor's office demanded to initiate criminal proceedings against journalist Yulia Taratuta (recognized as a foreign agent on the territory of the Russian Federation) for violation of the law on foreign agents. This was reported by the agency on January 31.

It is specified that the journalist during the year was twice brought to administrative responsibility under Article 19.34 ("Violation of the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent") of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

"<...> However, from September to December 2024, being outside the Russian Federation, again failed to submit to the authorized body mandatory information in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation on foreign agents", - stated in the Telegram-channel of the Prosecutor's office.

At present, the issue of initiating criminal proceedings against Taratuta under Article 330.1 ("Evasion from fulfillment of obligations provided by the legislation of Russia on foreign agents") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is being considered. The materials of the prosecutor's audit were sent to the investigative authorities.

Earlier, on December 16, 2022, the Russian Ministry of Justice included Yulia Taratuta in the register of foreign agents. She was included in the list on the basis of Article 7 of the federal law "On control over the activities of persons under foreign influence".

On December 1, the law regulating the activities of citizens recognized as foreign agents came into force in Russia. Now the relevant register will become unified. The procedure for inclusion in this list has also changed. An individual can be recognized as a foreign agent regardless of his or her citizenship, and in the case of legal entities, their organizational and legal forms will no longer be taken into account.
