On January 31, the Russian Embassy in Norway reported that it was investigating the circumstances of the detention of the Silver Dania vessel with a Russian crew.

The press service of the diplomatic mission specified that the Norwegian police had not yet informed the embassy about the detention of the Russians.

"We have sent an official request to the police of the Troms district, we find out the circumstances of the situation," - reports the message of the Russian Embassy of the TASS agency.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the Norwegian police detained the Norwegian ship Silver Dania with the Russian crew on suspicion of alleged involvement in the damage to the fiber-optic cable in the Baltic Sea. It is noted that the vessel, which runs between St. Petersburg and Murmansk, was detained at the request of the Latvian authorities.

An underwater fiber-optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged on January 26 in the Baltic Sea. Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja said that the submarine cable between was probably damaged by an external impact.

After that, on January 28, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russia was allegedly involved in the breakage of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC) company's submarine cable in the Baltic Sea. First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov called Scholz's words nonsense in a conversation with Izvestia.
