David Lynch will be posthumously honored with a Writers Guild of America award


American film director and screenwriter David Lynch, who passed away this month, will be posthumously honored with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) award for his significant contribution to the screenwriting art of cinema. This was reported by Deadline on January 29.
As indicated in the publication, Lynch knew about the award and accepted it a few weeks before his death. The award ceremony will be held on February 15, and present the award will be the star of the films "Blue Velvet" and "Twin Peaks" Kyle MacLachlan.
The award recognizes WGA members who have "made an outstanding contribution to film literature and the screenwriting profession."
"The uncompromising vision of writer-director David Lynch pushed the boundaries of filmmaking. We are proud to honor him and his legacy," said guild head Meredith Stim.
Lynch's career began with short animated and feature films. In 1977, he directed his debut feature-length motion picture, "The Elbow Head." The most popular works of the American director are the TV series "Twin Peaks" and the films "Highway to Nowhere", "Blue Velvet" and "Mulholland Drive". Lynch was honored with a special award at the 2007 Independent Spirit Awards and a Golden Lion at the 2006 Venice Film Festival.
In recent years, Lynch has struggled with a serious illness - pulmonary emphysema. Earlier the director admitted that he could not live without an oxygen mask. On January 16, 2025, the American edition of Variety reported that the director and screenwriter died at the age of 78. Until his 79th birthday, he did not live a few days.
