A doctor has spoken about the positive effects of social media on the brain

The impact of social networks on the brain depends directly on the way they are used. They will have a positive effect if a person has a creative attitude to them, for example, purposefully subscribes to certain people, reads their posts and gets some new information for himself, which he then applies in life, said February 2 "Izvestia" therapist and geriatrician, doctor of medical sciences, professor and expert of the social project "Dementia.net." Andrei Ilnitsky.
"Mastering new gadgets and technologies helps to improve cognitive abilities, especially in the elderly. If a person masters new gadgets and their functions, memory, attention and even thinking speed can improve," Ilnitsky explained.
According to him, there have already been studies that older people who constantly receive new information, master new means of communication and gadgets, reduce the risk of age-related brain diseases, in particular - Alzheimer's disease.
According to the doctor, digital detox is necessary, but the brain must constantly work, and it is important to alternate between different types of workload, including interaction with the digital world.
"There should be a place in the schedule for technology, social media, healthy sleep, exercise and socializing. This all also takes part in a fuller brain activity and in the prevention of cognitive impairment," summarized Ilnitsky.
Earlier, on January 23, Viktor Nurdaev, a psychiatrist at the medical company SberZdorovye, told Izvestia about the disorder of perception of one's own body. According to him, when browsing social networks, some people compare their appearance with those who seem more attractive to them. This can lead to the discovery of any shortcomings. If at the same time a person starts to constantly dwell on it, tries to correct something, for example, with the help of cosmetic procedures or surgery, but still remains dissatisfied with himself, it may indicate dysmorphophobia.
