The Russian Consulate General on the Indonesian island of Bali will start working in the near future. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on January 31.

"Indonesia traditionally attracts a significant number of Russian tourists, to protect their rights and legitimate interests, the Consulate General of Russia in Denpasar, this is Bali, will soon begin work," she said at a briefing.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman emphasized that Russia and Indonesia have similar or coinciding views on global and regional agenda issues. The countries also actively coordinate their actions within the UN and on other international platforms.

Zakharova added that the long experience of cooperation serves as a reliable basis for further strengthening of bilateral relations between the states.

Before that, on November 2, 2024, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov said that Russia plans to open general consulates in the Maldives, on the island of Bali in Indonesia, as well as in the cities of Grodno, Aktau and Samarkand. According to him, the Russian Foreign Ministry intends to increase its presence in those regions where there are large diasporas of Russians, as well as in popular tourist destinations.
