Almost half of the residents of Denmark see the United States as a "significant threat" because of the statements of the President of the United States Donald Trump on the annexation of Greenland. This was reported on January 31 by The Guardian with reference to the data of a poll conducted by YouGov.

"The poll, conducted in Denmark from January 15 to 22 among just over a thousand people, showed that 46% consider the United States a 'very big threat' or 'quite a big threat' to Denmark," - stated in the material.

It is noted that this figure was higher than the number of those who consider a threat to DPRK (44%) and Iran (40%). The number of those Danes who consider Russia a threat is 86%.

The overwhelming majority - 78% of those polled - oppose the sale of Greenland to the United States.

Before that, on January 29, more than 80% of Greenlanders polled opposed joining the United States. About 6% said they were not against joining the United States, and 9% were still undecided. It was noted that the vote was conducted with 497 adult residents of the island.

On January 26, Trump, answering questions from reporters in Las Vegas, expressed confidence that the United States will get Greenland. The previous day, Trump had insisted on acquiring Greenland during a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Trump was reportedly aggressive and conflicted.

Earlier, on January 15, a USA Today poll showed that 53% of US residents opposed the idea of US President Donald Trump to annex Greenland to the country.

On December 22, 2024, Trump said that for the US to own and control Greenland is an absolute necessity. He had previously expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down. In the coming year, Trump was also indicated to Trump that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the US.
