The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has sentenced a 69-year-old resident of Donetsk, accused of espionage, to 13 years in prison. This was reported in the Prosecutor's office of the region on January 31.

According to the investigation, from December 2018 to May 2022, an ex-officer of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and then a freelancer of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, living in the region, collected and stored information about the structure, personnel and contacts of the Ministry of state security of the DNR.

A criminal case was opened against the man under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Espionage").

"Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced the perpetrator to 13 years of imprisonment with serving his sentence in a strict regime penal colony. The preliminary investigation in the criminal case was carried out by the investigative unit of the FSS of Russia in the DNR", - concluded in the message.

A day earlier it was reported that the FSB officers detained a resident of Donetsk, who in the interests of the SBU collected and transmitted information about the units of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation on the territory of the republic. A criminal case under a similar article has been opened.
