Rospotrebnadzor expressed readiness to assist Uganda in fighting Ebola

Rospotrebnadzor is ready to provide assistance to Uganda, where a case of Ebola has been confirmed. This was reported in the agency on January 31.

"Rospotrebnadzor is in contact with Ugandan colleagues, sent proposals to assist in the epidemiological investigation and anti-epidemic measures," - stated on the website of Rospotrebnadzor.

It is specified that last year to improve the laboratory capabilities of Uganda, the agency installed a mobile laboratory in Kampala, which provided rapid diagnosis of dangerous infectious diseases.

Earlier, on January 30, it became known that in Uganda confirmed outbreak of disease caused by the Ebola virus. One of the first patients was a nurse at a hospital in the capital, who sought medical help after the appearance of symptoms similar to fever. On Thursday, January 30, she passed away. An autopsy confirmed the presence of Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV).

Uganda last experienced an outbreak in late 2022. According to the latest figures, the 2022 outbreak has killed 55 of the 143 infected people, among them six health workers.

Ebola hemorrhagic fever is transmitted through contact with infected body fluids and tissues. Symptoms include headache, vomiting blood, muscle aches and bleeding.
