U.S. plans to create a new missile defense system (BMD) similar to Israel's Iron Dome are almost impossible to implement due to technical and financial limitations. This was reported on January 30 by Defense One portal with reference to analysts.

"Iron Dome" is designed to protect cities or facilities from missiles and drones at a relatively short range. Given the topography and geography of the United States, the system may be useful to protect a city such as, say, El Paso, Texas, from a missile attack coming from Mexico, but no more," - stated in the material.

It is also noted that this development will require the creation of advanced weapons to intercept hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles. In addition, the deployment of a network of satellites in space, which will be equipped with lasers to eliminate nuclear-tipped missiles.

As noted in the article, to put such satellites into orbit, it is necessary to pay an "astronomical price" for realization and overcoming weighty technical obstacles.

Earlier, on January 28, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on the creation of the US missile defense system "Iron Dome". The purpose of this development is to prevent the threat of attack by ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles on the States. The document was signed on an airplane en route from Florida, where Trump was speaking at the convention of the Republican party caucus in Congress.

The system would be responsible for defense across the country. The text of the document says the defense secretary must provide the president with a "reference architecture" and an "implementation plan" for the project within 60 days of the date of the executive order.

At the same time, retired military expert Colonel Viktor Litovkin told Izvestia that the US has virtually no missile defense system (BMD) and the state has no chance of creating Iron Dome in the coming years. Litovkin said that the US has a joint air defense system with Canada. However, he noted, this system is ineffective because it only protects the country from missiles from the north.
