Saldo said that the AFU was not ready to leave Kherson without destruction
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is not going to leave Kherson to save it from destruction, as evidenced by the active fortification works that the enemy is carrying out in the city. This was stated by the Governor of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo.
"Now the number of live force veseushniki (military of the Armed forces of Ukraine - Ed.) is small, but there is a lot of fortification work being carried out there. That is, it (Kherson. - Ed.) is being buried: they are creating bomb shelters, shelters, control centers. <...> To say that they are ready to give Kherson unharmed and come out of it, as we came out to save the city and the remaining citizens there - they are unlikely to do it," TASS quoted him as saying.
According to the governor, the enemy's construction equipment and movement in parts of the city where fortifications are being built are already visible. Despite this, all settlements in the region on the right bank of the Dnieper will be liberated, he added.
Earlier, on December 20, 2024, Saldo said that Kherson should be liberated without destruction. He specified that the city was damaged only by US HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, which hit civilian objects, and emphasized that the Russian side did not do so.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
