FT reported on China building a military command center in China bigger than the Pentagon

Not far from Beijing, a military command center is being built, the size of which is supposedly ten times larger than the size of the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense - the Pentagon. This was reported by the Financial Times (FT) on January 31 with reference to U.S. officials.

Satellite images in the possession of the publication show a construction site with deep pits that experts estimate would house large bunkers to protect Chinese military leaders during any conflict, including a potential nuclear war.

The construction site has all the hallmarks of a secret military facility, including heavily fortified concrete and deep underground passages, the FT writes.

"Almost ten times the size of the Pentagon, it is well in line with [Chinese President] Xi Jinping's ambitions to surpass the US," said the Chinese researcher.

Earlier, on January 15, then US Secretary of State candidate Marco Rubio said that the PRC is the "major threat" to America. According to him, China has something the Soviet Union "never had," namely technological, industrial and economic superiority. According to Rubio, Washington's competition with Beijing will determine the course of the 21st century.

Before that, on January 5, the Financial Times wrote that Xi Jinping's strategy toward US President Donald Trump's administration is defined by clarity and determination. Experts predict that it will consist of creating various measures and restrictions to hurt American companies, adaptation and expansion of economic ties.

China's Defense Ministry said last Dec. 21 that the U.S. military strategy is becoming increasingly confrontational and adventurous. Also in December, the Pentagon released a report on China's military development, citing an increase in the number of nuclear warheads available to Beijing.
