Russian former figure skater Alexander Kirsanov, who performed in ice dancing, was on board the plane that crashed in Washington. This was reported on January 30 by his wife Natalia Gudina to the American TV channel ABC News.

"I lost everything. I lost my husband. I lost my students. I lost my friends," Gudina stated.

She specified that she learned about the plane crash from the mother of one of the other skaters, who was also, like Kirsanov, on board the plane. In addition, according to Gudina, her students were on board the plane. She does not know about their fate.

Kirsanov represented the national teams of Russia, Azerbaijan and the United States during his career as a figure skater. In the 1997/1998 season, he took second place at the Junior Grand Prix in a duet with Olga Pogosyan. Two years later, he became the champion of Azerbaijan.

On the night of January 30, an American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk military helicopter collided near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. After the crash, they fell into the Potomac River. A total of 60 passengers and four crew members were aboard the plane. There were three military personnel in the helicopter. The television company NBC News reported that the bodies of more than 30 victims were extracted from the water. In turn, US President Donald Trump reported on the absence of survivors in the airplane crash in Washington.

Later it was reported that in the plane, preliminary, there were eight skaters and four coaches. The Boston Figure Skating Club said the coaches, world champion figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were on board, along with hopeful junior skaters and their parents. In addition to them, former figure skater Inna Volyanskaya was on the plane. The Russian Embassy in the United States expects that the State Department of the United States will soon provide information about the dead Russians.

The same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were Russian citizens in the plane that crashed in Washington. Peskov reported that there were Russian figure skaters on board the passenger plane. He expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died in the plane crash.
