An expert assessed the impact of the airplane crash on US politics
Democrats will use the plane crash to prove US President Donald Trump's inability to effectively govern the country. They are likely to intensely criticize the investigation and the current administration's response, as well as accuse it of inter-agency confusion, says Ivan Loshkarev, an associate professor of political theory at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
But Republicans will also try to capitalize on the situation. They may emphasize the decline of air traffic control under the administration of former leader Joe Biden and the underfunding of the airline industry, as well as refer to the understaffing of the Air Force and, as a result, the incompetence of pilots, the expert said.
On January 29, a passenger plane Bombardier CRJ700 of American Airlines collided in the air with a military helicopter UH-60 Black Hawk on approach at Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington. The crash killed 67 people.
