Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev has called the words of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Germany was liberated from Nazism by the United States completely ugly.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Thursday, January 30, the senator recalled that Germany capitulated solely due to the actions of the Red Army. In order to be sure of this, he advised to eat the inscriptions on the Reichstag and look at the photo of the flag that was placed on its dome.

He called Scholz's statement "a tribute to modern political fashion, or rather modern political conjuncture" and pointed out that this statement has nothing to do with historical reality. In addition, he said, it sounded "absolutely immoral toward those who defeated Hitler's Nazism."

Kosachev added that it was, of course, "the anti-Hitler coalition," but the Red Army and the Soviet Union played the decisive role.

Earlier, on January 29, Scholz thanked the United States for saving Germany from Nazism. He specified that because of this fact he is angry about the support of the American entrepreneur and politician Ilon Musk for right-wing politicians in Germany. Irish journalist Chay Bose criticized Scholz. He called the words of the politician another delusional amnesia, recalling that the Russians liberated Berlin.

Later, on January 30, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied the words of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that the United States is the liberators of Germany from Nazism. In particular, he said, "such a line on oblivion, of course, is very harmful in terms of possible consequences and in terms of creeping Nazism, which is coming again across Europe, which is significantly rooted in Kiev."

At the same time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that if German Chancellor Olaf Scholz started condemning all those who support right-wing forces in Europe, he should stop helping the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine.
