Criminal case opened after VFU shelling of two districts of Kursk border region

A criminal case has been opened against militants of the armed formations of Ukraine (AFU) who committed a crime against civilians by shelling Rylskyi and Korenevskyi districts of Kursk Region. This was stated in the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia on January 30.

"It has been established that on January 30, 2025, militants of the VFU committed a purposeful shelling of settlements in Rylsky and Korenevsky districts of Kursk region, where civilians live," the agency said in its Telegram channel.

Due to these criminal actions of the militants, two civilians were injured and civilian infrastructure facilities in Korenevo, Nikipelovka and Sekerino of Korenevsky district were damaged.

The Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case against the Ukrainian militants under paragraphs "a" and "c" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). During the preliminary investigation, all VFU militants involved in this crime will be identified and brought to justice.

Earlier in the day, a residential house in the village of Voronok, Rylsk district, Kursk region, caught fire after Ukrainian shelling - a shell hit the building. BARS-Kursk fighters evacuated the victim from the house, he was treated. In the village of Korenevo two houses were destroyed in this attack, and in the village of Nikipelovka - one.

On the same day, the Kursk Region Operational Headquarters reported that air defense forces shot down two missiles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the border area of the region.

Before that, on January 17, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Eduard Kaburneev said that the agency had completed the investigation of more than 50 criminal cases against AFU fighters who committed crimes in Kursk Region, and the defendants would soon be brought to trial. Since 2014, the IC has opened 6,500 criminal cases against the Ukrainian military, 500 defendants have been convicted, among whom 61 people have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The AFU has been shelling Russian territories on a daily basis amid a special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russia announced on February 24, 2022.
