Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and an American political scientist, has suggested that US President Donald Trump wants to freeze the conflict in Ukraine by his decision to suspend aid to Kiev.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Thursday, January 30, the expert stressed that this issue is not about Ukraine, but about Trump's policy.

"The suspension should push Ukraine to start the negotiation process. To, as they say in Washington, freeze the conflict," Blokhin explained.

According to the political scientist, this could indeed lead to freezing the conflict, but Russia is unlikely to go for it: Russian officials have repeatedly stated that they are against freezing, and in favor of long-term peace.

"Freezing the conflict is in the interests of Ukraine and in the interests of the West," Blokhin said.

He added that such decisions are typical of Trump's foreign policy line. He has repeatedly stated the need to "reconsider relations with many countries that are 'parasites' and suck money out of the United States."

On January 21, Trump signed an executive order to suspend all aid programs to foreign countries for 90 days, writes the website aif.ru. He emphasized that in the future no foreign aid to the United States will not be provided contrary to the foreign policy of the President of the United States. Later, on January 29, a source in the US Congress said that Washington stopped military and economic support for Ukraine after the relevant decree of Trump. The decree also affected the suspension of economic support, but budgetary assistance to Kiev is currently ongoing.

On January 30, the British newspaper The Guardian wrote that Ukraine was shocked by the US decision to suspend aid to other countries. It was specified that due to the suspension of US funding, Ukraine had to suspend a number of "critically important" projects.

Western countries increased military and financial support to Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which started on 24 February 2022 due to the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of Ukrainian shelling.
